Calais Farmers' Market
The Calais Farmers' Market has a variety of farmstead products such as organically grown fruits and vegetables, gorgeous floral arrangements, baked goods, crafts, wild blueberries, organic teas, preserves, and free-range eggs. In true farm-to-table fashion, there's something for everyone.
This harvest venue is conveniently located in Calais' historic market square area (it's really triangle-shaped!). "Triangle Park" is adjacent to the Calais Free Library, directly across from all the cozy Main Street cafes and boutiques that make downtown quaint.
What's more is that the market is situated just a short distance from the St. Croix River, where visitors can enjoy the scenic Calais Waterfront Walkway. The walkway follows both the river and a 19th Century railroad track. Views span both the US and Canada's Town of St. Stephen. Great for working off some of those baked goods!
Also within walking distance is the Maine Visitor Information Center. It boasts an available bike trail, handicap access, public restrooms and wireless internet. You can read more about them here.
Don't miss the opportunity to view "Nexus," a large granite sculpture created by artist Miles Chapin, which is located adjacent to the market and is part of the Schoodic International Sculpture Trail.
The market provides ample street parking as well as a public parking lot. Located directed across the street from dining and shopping (Crumbs Cafe and Bakery is a favorite!), there's no shortage of things to do and see. Make a day of it!
Lastly, on sunny days, when it's a little too hot to hike around town, market goers can take advantage of the covered gazebo for some shade while enjoying the market's offerings.
